Apart from our twinning link Saméon already had a connection to Great Britain. In the Great War of 1914 – 1918 there was much fighting in that area and six British soldiers fell in battle there. They are buried in the graveyard of the church in the village where their graves are very well looked after by the sexton. There is also a war memorial, likewise well-tended, and our soldiers are always remembered on Liberation Day. A few years back our bi-annual visit happened to coincide with the Liberation Day celebrations and we attended a moving ceremony for our fallen countrymen where wreaths were laid on all their graves. Saméon is proud to be the custodians of these six comrades in arms.
You will find some of photographs of Saméon and its environs on the photo album page and you can look at the somewhat basic Saméon webpage but be aware that there are some rather annoying pop-ups which don’t always want go away!
